The Star Money Fairy Tale Trunk or Treat

Our school hosted its annual Trunk or Treat this past week and I was in charge of one of the grade’s trunks. The ToT coincides with the school’s book fair, so I piggybacked off their theme (fairy tales) to create this unusual, fairy-tale inspired trunk.

It’s based off the Grimm’s tale, The Star Money, about a little orphan girl who wanders into the woods and ends up giving away all her possessions to people less fortunate than herself. At the end of the story, she looks up at the sky to find that the stars are raining money on her.

You can’t tell in the photo but I wound LED lights throughout my dress so at night, I’d light up like the backdrop.

To hand out to the kids, I made these glitter star crayons (and to allow kids w/ allergies the opportunity to pickup something that was safe!). We included a gold chocolate coin in each pouch – we ended up handing out over 500 treats!
